ometepe, nicaragua

We had heard about this incredible natural formation called Ometepe (whereby two volcanoes are centred in a lake forming their own island) way back in Mexico city. As luck would have it, we were able to time our visit to the island for Magma Fest, an electronic music festival featuring Central American DJ's. Admittedly, the festival didn't appeal to either of us initially as we are a little picky with our electronic music. But with the trademark traveller's, "Oh well, why the hell not?" kind of attitude, we made the effort to attend the event.

It turned out that the event was a great meeting place for many of our friends that we had met along our journey through Central America. The event was even a great way to meet new people, as everybody in every hostel was there for the same reason and ready for some serious shenanigans. Little Morgan's Hostelassumed the role of "the place to go" for the pre-parties (thats a pleural because Magma Fest ran a pre-party, two days for the official event and an after party). Little Morgan's Hosteltook this role very seriously with mean spirit pours in their mixer offerings and some great warm-up tunes. At the actual festival, we had an amazing night partying it up with friends from all over the place. Thinking we were awesome wearing Santa hats, dancing knee deep in the water (as though it's the most innovative idea ever) and posing stupidly for photos. Obviously, we weren't being awesome and in fact just acting like a pack of dickheads... but isn't that how all the best memories are made?

Between epic hangovers, we made it to some beautiful tourist attractions such as Ojo de Agua (a freshwater fed pool), San Ramon (which is a stunning waterfall) and the butterfly sanctuary, which was a cool way to forget about how much our heads hurt from the night before.
