The cool thing about these ruins was seeing how the Mayan architecture had evolved over 500 or so years. The first ruins we saw were quite basic, whereas the clever people of Palenque were installing windows, rooms and water drainage! The ruins were cool, but to be honest, the rest of the national park really got us. We love waterfalls.

So in Palenque we also went from the best hostel we have stayed in, being the one in San Cristobal, to the worst.  This place was a joke - an expensive, shitty joke. Check the last photo in this post. What is that brown and white contortion, you may ask? They are our towels. Don't get us wrong, we are not prejudice against towel-origami (towel swans are great), but the place was just overpriced with staff that could not care less about their job if they tried. Then after a long day at the ruins we come home to .....well, you make up your mind what you think they look like. Thanks a lot, Yaxkin Hostel.
