ipiales, colombia

This is another visit that we can thank Pinterest for. Although you may come across the name of this church on your travels, it's not widely talked about. Yet again, this was a place that Kassandra had pinned as a "must see" before we had even left Australia.

The city of Ipiales is a bit of a dump (excuse my harsh description - but it is), however Las Lajas Sanctuary (a church built in a valley, next to a waterfall, over a river) is truly an incredible piece if architecture. As is usually the case when travelling, the most beautiful buildings are always churches and this always leaves the two of us with questions, comments and discussions about religion. So while we discussed the pressing issue of this place - why the fuck someone would build a church in such a ridiculous location - we ate our beloved standard meal that nobody wants to prepare for us (rice, potatoes and salad) while admiring the architecture and enjoying the sound of the nearby waterfall.
