flores, guatemala

We hadn't researched Flores before we arrived, simply because we had the impression that it was just a stopover on our way to Antigua. Sometimes it's a good thing not to know exactly what you are going to see before you get there. Flores proved to be a wonderful surprise. A small island in the middle of a lake, chockablock with the pretty colonial buildings, of which we have developed a particular affection for.

We had the option of getting up at 2:30am to visit more ruins, to which we admitted to ourselves that... we didn't really care for doing. Instead we did something that apparently is very taboo. We skipped the famous ruins to eat pancakes, row a canoe in the lake (or on the street because part of the island is flooded), rope-swing into the lake, see a toucan, and ride down a would-be-illegal-in-Australia water slide.
