uyuni, bolivia

The salts flats near Uyuni were a sight that we were really looking forward to. We took a tour and we got so much more than we had bargained for.

Salt Flats
Our tour guide helped us take those typical salt flat tour photos of pretending to hold up a wine bottle, which we honestly find a bit.... Year 9 high school photography class. You know what I mean? Anyway, we had our own style of photographing....

Salt House

Our accommodation was in a house made of salt. Salt bed frames, salt tables, salt chairs and salt walls. The place had been running for a while and the salt chandelier had started to look like it was made of petrified dog shit.

Lagoons, Rocks and Mountains
The next day we were taken on a wonderful tour to different multicoloured lagoons with flamingos, snow-capped mountains and cool rock formations.

We were then taken to our hostel for the night which was situated next to a bright pink lagoon which was home to hundreds of beautiful flamingos.

Geysers
On the last day we were told to wake up early to watch the sunrise. We were herded into the car (and "herded" is the appropriate word because the guides conveniently never told us what was happening) and we took off up the mountains. After about an hour of driving Shawn said, "There's geysers up here!" We got out of the car at a place that felt like the moon. Bubbling, spitting, muddy, smelly, noisy geysers were all around us. One of the coolest things we have ever seen.

Hot Spring
We then parked up to a very busy hot spring. Although we hesitated getting in the water initially (the idea of getting your kit off in 5 degree weather in a crowded change room isn't very appealing), we decided to go for it. And it was gooooooood.
